Coaxial cable:
à In coaxial cable there is a single copper wire at its center. This central copper wire is surrounded and insulated by a plastic layer and this plastic layer is guarded by a braided metal shield. This metal shield help to block all any outside interference from fluorescent lights, motors and other computers.
Coaxial cable is available in different type including RG-6, Cabel TV, RG58- thin Ethernet, RG8 –Thick Ethernet.
Character stick of thin net cable and thick net cable
RG58 –thinnet cable characteristics: àMaximum cable length is 200 meters with maximum bandwidth of 10mbps. Connector type is BNC. RG58-thinnet cable signal transmission is baseband type and impedance of this cable is 50ohms.
RG58-thiknet cable characteristics:àMaximum cable length of thicknet cable is 500 meter and connector type is AUI. Rests of the characteristics are same as thinnet type cable
Coaxial cable needs a tee for connecting any node in network and at the end of network it needs terminator for cable.
As always I have to show advantage and disadvantage of this cable to you
Benefits of coaxial cable
1) It’s very easy to install.
2) Small in diameter so can be placed in any narrow place.
3) Shielded to reduce EMI( electromagnetic interference) and RFI( radio frequency interference)
4) Maximum distance is at least double comparison to twisted pair cable.
Drawback of coaxial cable
1) One cable break entire network goes down.
2) Must be grounded to prevent interference
3) More expensive than twisted pair cable.
4) Does not support high speed transmission.
